has anyone done this? I have a nice little wisteria...last year it had a few blooms on it. I want it trained into a tree that I'll be able to walk under as I go up the path to the shade garden. Sooo...how would I prune it? and when?
thanks

Hold your potted plant by each of it's branches, and decide which is the thickest branch that you do not cut. It can be off center. That one needs to be supported by a plastic or redwood stake. Even an old dead rosebush limb that has no disease is o.k. After I've cut a rosebranch I dip my pruners in hydrogen peroxide or vinegar to protect the next plant. You want the plant to spread outward, so make the trim cut to the branchlet that is outermost of the center branch to the right and left to train it to grow outward. Don't stake those and don't tip the top leaves.
