My sisters neighbor has a large plant in her front yard with hugh yellow flowers the bloom at night. The flowers hang straight down and are about 6" long. Does anyone know what it is? Shari from Texas

I believe datura's bloom at night. but their flower is usually upright.
brug flowers hang down, but mine bloom during the day.

Brugmansia flowers hang down, Datura flowers are usually at a tilted angle. Both are ope nduring the day as well as the night. Brugmansia is fragrant at night. Without a photo it is difficult to say for sure, could you please tell us more about the plant if you are unable to get a photo of it? Thanks & good luck.

I agree that it is a Datura. Are the flowers large and cone shaped? Do they have a strong smell? Some people become ill from the odor. Datura is a night bloomer. Don't eat it or get the sap on you. If it is datura, it is a strong cardiac poison. That is why it blooms at night. Most warm blooded animals avoid the plants. With out a photo, I can only guess! Good luck! Del

If the flowers hang stright down and are 6 inches then its Brugmansia.It needs another cultiver to set seed.Dauntra seed pods are spiney& round like a golf ball.Brugmansia can hang stright down or at a slight angle.Dauntra point stright up(but my double yellow is stright up at an angle due to flowers weight)A Brugmansia Versicolors flowers hang stright down& their longest flower is 10 inches.
