Grasshopper56 --- You have some beautiful plants growing there. Wish my garden was as neet as your greenhouse. But then you had a beautiful garden growing Dec.
Staley, since most don't post here very often, I keep the box at top checked so I get an e-mail when they do.

Well, well! I had no idea this was here! I just got a postcard in the mail to confirm my contact info, and found this! How nice! I am in Weeki Wachee and can sympathize with all about the freezing. We had a farily mild winter this year, but we lost a few "babies" with 2 cold snaps. Have been here in FL for 5 years now and I am still struggling with getting any decent produce from my raised beds. I got a few tomatoes, cabbage, and onions, but lost cucumbers. I think my garden has those lousy nematodes, so this year I am letting it rest and sanitizing it with clear plastic. Still putting a bunch of garbage (literally!) into it and turning it over. I hope that will make it better when I try to plant again. Also, I am still learning WHEN to plant things here...it's so different from Ohio! I wish I knew how to post pictures in this... I have some beautiful flower pictures I'd love to share.

I'll check in every so often to see what's new!

Hi Concsk/Connie, Welcome to the Florida thread. I’ve been off line for most of the last 3 weeks, and just saw your post. I live down in Sebring – Zone 9. Have been down here about 39 years. Solarizing your soil should help get rid lots of the soil pests. In our sandy soil, you will need to add LOTS and LOTS of well composted manure and green plants. Do you have riding stables close or maybe dairy – where the animals are stalled? Our sand needs LOTS of help, especially if you grow organic. If not, you can use commercial fertz. For information on when to plant what --- check with your Master Gardeners or check your local library and see if they have “COMPLETE GUIDE TO FLORIDA GARDENING” by Stan DeFreitas. He lists when to plant each veggie for the three different areas of Florida (North, Central, & South). Has lots of good reading for us Florida gardeners. The following is what Woodwizard sent me on posting pictures:

Posting a picture
You have to use the reply button at the bottom of a post, not the section that is there now for a quick reply. At the bottom of the window that opens you will see ATTACHMENTS, click the arrow on the right side and it will expand that area.
Here the area is expanded.
In this area click the browse button and a popup window will open in which you select the picture to upload, select the file and click UPLOAD. Once uploaded current attachments will say 1, you can upload three per posting.
Once the file/s are uploaded they will show in a list. To put the picture into a post, go up into the post you are making and place the cursor where you want the picture to be placed. There is a file size limit. After the cursor is placed, click the INSERT IMAGE icon (in center of page) and the picture should appear in the post. After the image is there, if you click on the image a frame will appear that will allow you to adjust the size of the picture if you want. Dave

Good luck on posting pictures.
Since people post on this thread so seldom, I click for it to come to my e-mail

hello to all, and I admire those of you who can get veggies to grow wow! I grew up in IL and well the soil was so rich that there that anything would grow with little effort!  Now I am in Hudson about a mile from the gulf as the crow flies...  I call my yard the desert zone  between the sun (with no shade) and the sand    So I have been planting host and nectar plants for the butterflies  with a LOT of water wise plants.  I want to try a few herbs this year! Thank you for sharing all of your Florida planting wisdom!!
