Hello everyone, I'm a 36 yr old who lives in Colorado. This will be my first attempt at gardening this year. I have an interest in vegetable & flower gardening but have found it to be quite intimidating in the past. This year I plan to follow through with my desire. This past year I also learned to can/preserve food. I've brought a few dwarf fruit trees & vegetable/flower seed packets & anxiously waiting shipment. Hoping to gain as much knowlege from you all

    vmyrock,

Welcome. This is a great place to find out about gardening and to get help with problems that might arise.

    Tell us more about yourself.

I live in TN. Our garden and flowers were wiped out by the floods we had in 09 and 10. I'm starting from scratch again.

    Enjoy your gardening!

    Thanks Betty 2,
I'm new to gardening so I'm excited & nervous. I have 3 kids, love to cook, sew, & spend time with family/friends. My days are pretty busy due to kids, ages ranging from teen to toddler. I also do custom sewing. I'm usually pretty good with my hands & since it will be my very first garden hoping for much success. I've lived in CO since 01 & with the short growing season & soil conditions I've heard it can be quite nerve boggling. I've brought a few books & can't wait to get started.

Welcome from the Forty Mile Desert of Northern Nevada. Only advise I can give at this time is have your soil tested. You can get a nutrient test kit from a nursery or big box store, and somewhere on this site there is a soil consistancy test you can do yourself. Dry climate soils can be difficult.

    Hope to see you around.

    vmyrick,
I'm new to this too. I'm looking forward to swapping stories with gardening do's and don'ts with you and the rest of the group. I can relate to a busy life with kids. I have 4 myself, ages range from 8-13. When my children were younger, I had such a hard time finishing my gardening projects. Including my children with gardening was funny since they all wanted to do the job they thought was cool. I wish you the best of luck with your garden!
    Happy gardening,
    Heather

Heather, speaking of swapping stories, have you checked out the thread "Everything But Gardening"?
