Vintage Gold
Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Vintage Gold’ (a close-up of the plant is featured on pg. 27 in the November 2012 digital issue of Gardening How-To) is a dwarf variety of Sawara false cypress. Don’t you love its feathery golden branches and compact growth habit? It reaches only 18 to 30 inches tall and wide, and it won’t lose its brilliance in winter or summer. ‘Vintage Gold’ turns its brightest color in full sun, but it also does well in part shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and protection from wind. Zones 4 to 8.
